AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced Friday that abortion will no longer be legal in the state.

This comes after the decision of the United States Supreme Court to overturn Roe V. Wade, which was a landmark case in 1973 that decided abortions were protected by the constitution.

AG Paxton stated that he’s looking forward to “defending the pro-life laws of Texas and the lives of all unborn children moving forward.”

He also announced that all of his agency’s offices will be closed today “in honor of the nearly 70 million unborn babies killed in the womb since 1973.”

In 2021, Texas legislation passed a “trigger law” that would allow an abortion ban to go into effect 30 days after the overturning of Roe V. Wade, meaning that getting an abortion will be a felony offense. Additionally, doctors can face life in prison for performing one.
