Fremont injury shooting under investigation

FREMONT — A shooting that injured a person near a restaurant was under investigation Sunday, authorities said.

In a statement, police said an employee at the restaurant in the 5000 block of Mowry Avenue near Blacow Road called dispatchers around 3:11 p.m. to say a person had just walked in and said they had been shot.

When officers responded and arrived, they found a person suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Fremont firefighters also responded with an engine, assisting with first aid. The victim was then taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said they did not know what led up to the shooting.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, this was not a random incident,” police said in part. “We want to reassure the community the investigation will continue to determine what occurred today. We do not believe there is a threat to public safety.”

Anyone with information may call Fremont police at 510-790-6800 and dial ext. 3.
