OAKLAND — A judge sentenced a 22-year-old Oakland man to five years in prison Wednesday for his role in a sexual-extortion scheme targeting multiple underage victims, authorities said.
According to a plea agreement resulting from an investigation by San Francisco police and the Department of Homeland Security, Delaney Tang used Instagram accounts to extort nude photos and videos from a 12-year-old girl, threatening to disclose her actions to classmates and trying to get her to film herself in sex acts with an underage male, all with help from 21-year-old Concord man Vincenz Sison.
When the 12-year-old stopped responding to his requests for photos and videos, Tang posted images of her to Instagram accounts and other sites.
In a sentencing memorandum, the government said Tang used Instagram to connect with and extort seven other underage victims ranging from 11 to 14 years old.
After Tang and Sison were charged with cyberstalking and sexual extortion of children in November 2020, Tang was briefly released to a relative’s custody later that month.
Federal authorities later filed new charges against Tang and Sison in February, alleging conspiracy to commit cyberstalking for both men and solicitation of child pornography for Tang, who pleaded guilty to both charges.
In the sentence handed down by Superior Court Judge Heywood Gilliam, Tang must also serve an eight-year supervision period after his release from prison. Before his scheduled surrender to authorities Jan. 19, 2022. he will also face a victim-restitution hearing Jan. 12.
Sison pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit cyberstalking on April 28, and faces sentencing before Judge Gilliam on Feb. 2, 2022.
