Earthquake jolts hilly area near Oakland zoo and San Leandro

OAKLAND — A modest-sized earthquake rolled through a hilly section of the Oakland-San Leandro area Saturday night, officials reported.

The earthquake was a 2.6-magnitude temblor and was located about 2.5 miles north of San Leandro in an area that is in Oakland, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was reported at about 6:08 p.m. Saturday.

The epicenter of the earthquake was a few miles away from the Oakland Zoo, according to information released by the U.S.G.S.

MacArthur Boulevard and 82nd Avenue is a significant intersection in the vicinity of the quake.
