Expired certificate causing issues with some Windows 11 features

Windows 11 has been out for a little over a month now and Microsoft now has a few updates under its belt. Unfortunately, an expiring certificate has come in to play, causing dome Windows 11 features to stop working correctly.

As Microsoft warned, starting on the 1st of November, a digital certificate expired, which is causing issues with certain built-in Windows apps and features, including:

  • Snipping Tool
  • Accounts page and landing page in the Settings app (S mode only)
  • Start menu (S mode only)
  • Touch Keyboard, Voice Typing, and Emoji Panel
  • Input Method Editor user interface (IME UI)
  • Getting started and Tips

Windows 11 1024x538 1

The certificate expired on the 31st of October, but there is a partial resolution available. which will fix touch keyboard, voice typing, the emoji panel, the IME UI and the ‘Getting started’ page. These fixes have already been rolled out as part of this week’s KB5006746 update. Those missing the snipping tool will have to use print screen for the time being and paste the screenshot into an app like paint to be cropped.

The next step for Microsoft is fixing the remaining issues, which will come in a patch later this month.

KitGuru Says: If you’ve been having trouble with some parts of Windows 11 recently, this may be the cause of that. Have many of you upgraded to Windows 11 already? How has your experience been so far?
