Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones clears COVID protocols, could play Sunday

Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones has cleared COVID-19 protocols and has not been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph informed media members Friday that the three-time Pro Bowl selection had progressed enough to become eligible to play, although he said the team wants to assess his fitness status before activating him in two days.

Joseph added that for that reason, Jones remains officially on the team’s reserve/COVID list along with defensive tackle Corey Peters and defensive end Zach Allen.

Jones, 31, was placed on the COVID list on Oct. 12 after a positive test and was forced to miss the Cardinals’ 37-14 win over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday. In two games this season, he has nine tackles and a team-high five sacks, all coming in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.

A trio of linebackers are questionable for Sunday’s game after being limited practice participants: Jordan Hicks (toe, ankle), Devon Kennard (shoulder) and Tanner Vallejo (hand). Tight end Darrell Daniels (hamstring) and defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence (calf) were declared out for the Texans matchup.
