Atlanta teacher’s ‘Freestyle Fridays’ Engages Second Graders, Boosting Their Grades

Sammy Rigaud, an Atlanta teacher, rapper and speaker, is using freestyles to reward his students for doing well in his classroom and scoring highly in assessments.  In November, teacher Sammy Rigaud tweeted a clip from his Facebook Live feed where some of his young students were rapping for Freestyle Fridays. “Freestyle Friday’s!!! If you get 80% or higher on the weekly assessment….. you get a turn,” Rigaud wrote. The clip quickly got the attention of many, including famous rap artists.

Rigaud encountered challenges growing up but is now making history by becoming one of Atlanta’s most chilled teachers and rappers. He believes difficult situations are temporary, and with a great vision and focus, one can overcome them.
