Suspect in fatal Bay Point shooting charged with murder

A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder following the shooting death over the weekend of a Pittsburg man in Bay Point, authorities said.

The murder charge against Antonino Solis also carries with it a special enhancement for intentionally discharging a firearm, according to documents obtained from the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.

Solis also is charged with possession of an assault weapon, fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly, and assault with a firearm, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol arrested Solis after he attempted to run from Concord police following the shooting death of 24-year-old Pablo Bretado Munoz on Saturday. Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to Willow Pass Road and Bella Vista Avenue around 10:42 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found Bretado Munoz gravely wounded. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.

Concord police later spotted Solis driving elsewhere in the city. The Sheriff’s Office said he fled in the car toward Bay Point. The vehicle later crashed at an undisclosed location; authorities said Solis tried to run away from the crash scene.

As he fled, CHP officers found him and detained him, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Solis was in custody Friday at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $3.2 million bail.
