Bay Point: Homicide suspect arrested after fatal shooting, pursuit

A 28-year-old man was in county jail after his arrest on suspicion of homicide in connection with a fatal weekend shooting, authorities said.

Around 10:42 p.m. Saturday, deputies with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired at Willow Pass Road and Bella Vista Avenue, a sheriff’s spokesman said Sunday afternoon.

When deputies arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving measures from deputies, firefighters and an ambulance crew, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Pablo Bretado, 24, of Pittsburg.

Soon after investigators learned of a possible suspect and alerted nearby law-enforcement agencies, Concord police found a man who fled from them in a vehicle toward Bay Point.

After the vehicle crashed, the suspect fled on foot until police and California Highway Patrol officers found and detained him.

The man, identified as Pittsburg resident Antonino Solis, was booked into Martinez county jail on suspicion of murder and possession of an assault weapon.
