According to Shams Charnia of The Athletic, Josh Richardson has agreed to a one-year extension with the Boston Celtics that will see him paid $24 million over the next two seasons.

On July 31, the 27-year-old was traded to the Boston Celtics by the Dallas Mavericks for center Moses Brown who had been recently traded to Boston in a deal that sent former All-Star point guard Kemba Walker to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This upcoming season will be Richardson’s seventh in the NBA with the Celtics being the fourth team he has been on in the past four seasons.

After spending his first four years in the NBA with the Miami Heat, Richardson was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers as part of a four-team deal that sent Jimmy Butler to Miami.

The following season, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks, sending Seth Curry to Philadelphia. After starting for the majority of the regular season, his playing time was diminished in the playoffs going from 30.3 minutes per game to just 13.4 in the postseason.

In his seven seasons in the NBA, Josh Richardson has averaged 12.3 points and 3.2 rebounds in 373 career games. He gives the Boston Celtics a solid option at the wing position, providing athleticism and defense to a team that was thin at that position during the playoffs primarily due to the injury of the Celtics’ star guard/forward Jaylen Brown.

The Celtics have been criticized for their lack of credible moves in the offseason with their only notable moves being re-acquiring Enes Kanter and signing Dennis Schroder.

They will have to compete with an Atlantic division featuring a Brooklyn Nets that will look to compete for a championship with a healthy trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving as well as a New York Knicks team that signed two former Celtics Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier in the offseason.
