Map: River Fire evacuation near Colfax

A fast-moving wildfire that started around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday had within three hours prompted evacuations in Placer and Nevada counties.

The River Fire had burned 1,400 acres (2.2 square miles) by 7:30 p.m., the California Department of Fire and Forestry Protection said.

The map above shows the approximate boundaries of the mandatory evacuation order. Below are more detailed maps from each county, including evacuation warning areas. They allow a user to search for a specific address.

The initial order included the west side of the city of Colfax, just off Interstate 80 about 15 miles north of Auburn.

The sheriff’s offices of the two counties listed these shelter options:

  • Congregation point: Bear River High School, 11130 Magnolia Road, Grass Valley.
  • Temporary evacuation point: Nevada Union High School, 11761 Ridge Road, Grass Valley.
  • Evacuation center: Veterans Memorial Hall, 100 East St., Auburn.
  • Animal shelter: Nevada County Fairgrounds, 11228 McCourtney Road, Grass Valley.
