Despite ongoing legal issues, there’s now a chance that Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson could be on the move.
By now, you already know that Watson is facing allegations from north of 20 women of sexual assault and/or sexual misconduct. The reigning NFL passing yards leader also requested a trade from the Texans early in the offseason.
According to Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports, talks are “heating up” between the Texans and Eagles relating to Watson. “Both sides are attempting to come to an agreement,” the NFL reporter noted.
How would a Deshaun Watson trade to the Houston Texans look?
First off, Houston is not going to get its previous asking price of three first-round picks and two starter-caliber players for Watson. His legal situation and a potential suspension will dictate said market.
From a pure logistical standpoint, 2020 second-round pick Jalen Hurts would likely headline the players headed back to Houston in an hypothetical trade. As for draft pick compensation, there’s a good chance that Philadelphia will have three first-round picks in next year’s NFL Draft. It could flip one of those selections with multiple conditional early-round picks depending on Watson’s playing time.
It’s also safe to assume that Houston would demand another starter-caliber player in return. Perhaps, defensive tackle Fletcher Cox could be on the move to help the Eagles take on Watson’s salary.
The 25-year-old Deshaun Watson completed 70.2% of his passes for 4,823 yards with 33 touchdowns against seven interceptions last season. On the field, he’s a top-five quarterback in the NFL.
