Former Texas Christian cornerback Jeff Gladney will see his Minnesota Vikings career come to an end after just 16 games. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the young cornerback has been released.

Arrested back in April on allegations that he assaulted a significant other, the 2020 first-round pick was indicted by a grand jury in Texas on said charges Tuesday.

Gladney, 24, is accused of hitting, choking and dragging his then-girlfriend during an incident back on April 1. The details are harrowing.

“Gladney is accused of hitting the accuser with closed fists, choking her and dragging her by the hair while driving with her outside his vehicle. She also accuses him of pulling (her) by her hair trying to hold her still in order to get the Face ID to work,” J.D. Miles of CBS 11 News in Dallas reported back in April. “The accuser was able to break free and get into a vehicle with unknown passengers. Detectives documented bruising on her head, ears and torso. She also reported he has scratches on her face and neck and abrasions on her knees.”

For their part, the Minnesota Vikings also released a statement while announcing the release of Jeff Gladney.

“Following our review of today’s indictment against Jeff Gladney, we have decided to release Jeff immediately. As we have previously said, we take these matters very seriously and condemn all forms of domestic violence. Due to the ongoing legal nature of this matter, we are unable to provide further comment,” the Vikings said in a statement.

The 31st pick in last year’s NFL Draft, Gladney appeared in all 16 games for the Vikings as a rookie, starting 15 of them. He recorded 81 tackles (63 solo) and three passes defended.

If convicted on charges of felony domestic violence, Gladney faces some serious jail time. For now, his NFL career is seemingly over after just one season.
