Katie Ledecky finished off a busy day at the Tokyo Olympics, qualifying fastest for the women’s 1,500-meter freestyle and in the 200 free. Earlier, she earned a silver medal in the 400 free. The Stanford graduate swam 2,100 meters in all on Monday.
“I’ll sleep well tonight,” she told reporters.

Ledecky had a similarly hectic schedule at last month’s U.S. Olympic trials, although she had a chance to sleep after the 400 freestyle because qualifying for the 200 and 1,500 were the next morning.

The Newport Beach-born athlete’s last performance in a gymnastics team event didn’t exactly go as planned. An ill-timed slip during the 28-year-old’s performance ended any chance of holding off Great Britain in an attempt to preserve a fourth-place finish for the U.S. In spite of the slip up, he finished on an optimistic note.
“We really have a strong future for Team USA,” Mikulak, who is retiring after the Games, told reporters. “I know these guys are going to go (up their difficulty) and then all of a sudden coming to Paris (in 2024), I know these guys are going to be cranking it out trying to get up on that medal podium. So I’m excited for what they’re all going to do with this experience to grow from.”
