An infant was killed and three adults were injured over the weekend when a semi-truck crashed into a car stopped for traffic on State Route 156 southeast of Gilroy, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported at about 1:20 p.m. Saturday west of Pacheco Creek Drive, the CHP said in a statement.
The CHP said an investigation revealed a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia was traveling westbound and did not stop in time to avoid hitting a 2020 Toyota Corolla stopped for traffic. The force of the collision pushed the Corolla into a 2021 Volvo VNL 760.
An 11-month-old boy riding in the Toyota suffered fatal injuries in the crash, the CHP said. Three adults riding in the same car were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner and the Volvo were not injured.
The CHP said it did not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
Anyone who witnessed the crash can contact the Hollister-Gilroy CHP area office at 408-848-2324.
