Person seriously injured by firework in Pacifica

PACIFICA – A person was seriously injured by a firework Wednesday afternoon in Pacifica, authorities said.

Just before 4 p.m., firefighters were called to Esplanade Avenue and West Beaumont Boulevard for a report of a firework injury, the North County Fire Authority said in a news release. They arrived to find a person on the beach with “major trauma.”

Paramedics tended to the person and used an all-terrain vehicle to move them to an ambulance, the authority said. The person was then taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries.

An update on the person’s condition was not immediately available.

The authority did not specify if the firework involved was of the “safe and sane” variety, which was allowed in Pacifica from June 28 to July 5. The authority said safe and sane fireworks can still be dangerous and urged people to take safety precautions such as immediately backing up several feet after lighting one.
