College football: How will Cal, Stanford & San Jose State fare? Oddsmakers weigh in

San Jose State is expected to have a good year in 2021, although not as exceptional as its 2020 season. Cal, meanwhile, should improve while Stanford will likely drop off.

So say the oddsmakers at Caesars Sportsbook by William Hill, who put out their projected regular season win totals for all college football teams on Thursday.

After a season in which it went 7-0 in Mountain West Conference play, San Jose State’s over/under for wins in a 12-game season this year is 7.5, tied for the most in the conference’s West Division with Nevada.

The Spartans have home nonconference games later this year against Southern Utah (Aug.  28) and New Mexico State (Oct. 2) and will go on the road to face USC (Sept. 4) and Western Michigan (Sept. 25).

Stanford went 4-2 in the Pac-12 last season but has an over/under of 3.5 this year. The Cardinal, which just had five players drafted by NFL teams, has nonconference games against Kansas State (Sept. 4), Vanderbilt (Sept. 8), and Notre Dame (Nov. 27), with the game against the Fighting Irish the only one at home. Stanford also has to play USC, Arizona State, Washington State, and Oregon State on the road.

Cal went 1-3 in a brief 2020 season but is projected by Caesars to win six games. The Golden Bears host Nevada (Sept. 4) and Sacramento State (Sept. 18) and travel to Fort Worth to face TCU (Sept. 11). Their conference schedule includes road games against Washington, Oregon, Arizona, Stanford, and UCLA.
