Walnut Creek: Man’s body found near Interstate 680

WALNUT CREEK — California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the discovery of a 53-year-old man’s body next to Interstate 680, authorities said Sunday.

Shortly after 3:45 p.m., CHP officers responded to a report of a possible fatality in the 2600 block of Jones Road just south of the Contra Costa Trail.

When officers arrived, they found a man lying between BART tracks and northbound I-680 lanes and pronounced him dead at the scene.

After speaking to the person who called it in, investigators believe the man was homeless and living where he was found. No preliminary cause of death was available, and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office coroner’s division will release his identity, police said.

Anyone with information may call CHP’s Contra Costa office at 925-646-4980.
