Woman fatally shot in East Oakland

OAKLAND — A woman was fatally shot in an East Oakland neighborhood, authorities said Wednesday.

Shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to reports of ShotSpotter activity in the 1100 block of 77th Avenue, and officers arrived to find a woman suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Firefighters and paramedics also arrived and provided medical care, but the woman was later pronounced dead.

Investigators at the scene recovered at least two casings and were working to recover possible surveillance camera footage.

Police have not yet released a motive for the shooting. The killing is the 36th homicide investigated by Oakland police this year. Last year at this time police had investigated 14 homicides in the city.
