The man was able to drive the bullet-riddled, window-shattered SUV he was in to the 1400 block of East 31st Street across the street from the ambulance entrance to Highland Hospital about 10:30 a.m. where he was being treated. His condition was not available.

The man initially told authorities he was alone driving eastbound on Interstate 580 after leaving downtown Oakland and was on his way to East Oakland.

He said someone began shooting at him on the freeway but was not certain of the exact location.

A detailed description of the shooter and the vehicle they were in was not released, nor was a motive for the shooting.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the CHP at 707-917-4491.
