Motorcyclist killed after driving off San Mateo County cliff

SAN MATEO COUNTY – A motorcyclist died after driving off a cliff Thursday afternoon on the San Mateo County coast, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 3:20 p.m. on Highway 1 in the McNee Ranch State Park area, south of Gray Whale Cove State Beach, said Officer Mark Andrews of the California Highway Patrol.

Andrews said the rider, identified only as a 26-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was under one-way traffic control Thursday evening as authorities worked to recover the body and motorcycle.
