Elderly woman killed by truck while bicycling in Santa Clara identified

An 84-year-old woman killed in a collision with a pickup truck while bicycling on El Camino Real on Thursday in Santa Clara has been identified as Hae Sook Choe of Santa Clara.

The Santa Clara County coroner’s office on Saturday evening said Choe, who was hit Thursday afternoon near Kiely Boulevard, suffered multiple injuries including a broken pelvis and ribs. She died in the hospital.

The Santa Clara Police Department earlier said their investigation revealed Choe was riding westbound in the eastbound lanes of El Camino Real when she collided with a red 2010 Ford Ranger turning onto the roadway from a parking lot.

The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said, adding that alcohol, drugs and distracted driving did not appear to have played a role in the collision.
