Photos and drone video: Election-themed mural painted on 14th Street in downtown Oakland

Community members from the Bay Area and beyond came together to paint a street mural along 14th Street between Clay and Jefferson Streets on Thursday.

The finished mural spelled out: “Choose Democracy Stop a Coup,” and was organized by the East Point Peace Academy and Bay Resistance.

The organizers state that their aim is to defend democracy and ensure that every vote is counted. The grassroots groups have trained hundreds of people from all walks of life in how to respond and fight for democracy as the nation awaits the election on Nov. 4.

The event is a part of East Point Peace Academy’s “Deepen Together,” a 10-day series of community teachings to help people during the challenging times that the nation is facing.
