Police say swastika, ‘Trump’ painted on Lafayette home’s garage

LAFAYETTE — Police are investigating a vandalism incident involving a hate symbol and the president’s name Tuesday, authorities said.

According to police, officers responded to a street near Lafayette Circle and found a spray-painted swastika and the word “Trump” on a home’s garage.

In a statement, Lafayette Mayor Mike Anderson decried the vandalism in no uncertain terms.

“There is no place for hate in Lafayette. This is an inclusive and diverse city where everyone is welcome,” Anderson said.

“The spray-painting of a swastika, a symbol of oppression, genocide, and xenophobia, on an individual’s home will not be tolerated. Lafayette stands together in the face of any act involving prejudice or racism; this act will not be overlooked and will be vigorously prosecuted.”

Police said they were investigating the incident as a possible hate crime, and have contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
