SAN PABLO — One person was killed after a car crashed into a cement pillar on Interstate 80 on Friday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

Video taken by another I-80 motorist and posted to Twitter showed people frantically using a chainsaw and a crowbar to rescue the driver of the sedan, as flames shot out of the passenger side of the car.

The CHP said the crash was reported at 5:52 p.m. on west I-80 at San Pablo Dam Road. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, an officer at the CHP Traffic Management Center said.

CHP shutdown all lanes of traffic at 6:22 p.m. but reopened one lane 6:47 p.m. CHP has no estimate on when the other lanes will reopen. As of 8:30 p.m. traffic had backed up to Hilltop Road in Richmond.
