SAN PABLO — A Fairfield man and woman were arrested and in county jail Tuesday in connection with a Labor Day weekend shooting that saw a Richmond man killed while he was driving on Interstate 80.
Officers responded early Saturday to the 2100 block of Roosevelt Avenue to help three men seeking medical help after their vehicle was struck by gunfire shortly after midnight on I-80 near San Pablo Dam Road. One passenger was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police identified the man Tuesday as Kevin Santisteban, 24.
In a statement, police said investigators’ efforts led them to identify two suspects, Jorge Vasquez, 21, and Camille McAlister, 23, of Fairfield.
Vasquez was arrested at 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of East Tabor Avenue in Fairfield, and booked into Martinez county jail on suspicion of homicide as well as an Alameda County probation violation warrant. McAlister was arrested at 10:50 p.m. Sunday at San Pablo police headquarters and booked into jail on suspicion of accessory to commit homicide.
Both were in custody Tuesday evening, with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office weighing formal charges amid an ongoing investigation, police said.
