There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook of the Houston Rockets will go down in history as one of the greatest pint keepers to ever play the sport. However, in the mind of the 31-year-old, he sincerely hopes that the legacy he leaves will go far beyond the limits of the basketball court.
According to Westbrook, what he values most is the way he is able to share the blessings he has received:
“What does your heritage mean? Is it just basketball? I don’t think mine is about basketball. I believe mine is to give back.@ russwest44 on how he plans to influence social change off the pitch. pic.twitter.com/apk7VPjYdg

From an individual perspective, Westbrook will probably be remembered the most for this historic MVP season in the 2016-17 campaign, where he averaged a 32-11-10 triple-double. However, the Long Beach, California native made it clear that what he cares about most is how he can impact the lives of as many people as possible.
Westbrook may be a very outspoken individual, but he makes sure to back his speech with his actions – both on and off the pitch. Westbrook founded Why Not? Foundation in 2012, which, according to its website, aims “to inspire the lives of children, to give them the means to ask themselves why not? and teach them to never give up.
Westbrook has also actively supported the Black Lives movement, choosing to take to the streets to join the peaceful protests. He also decided to produce a documentary series on the Tulsa massacre in 1921, which is widely regarded as one of the most violent acts against the black community.
As for his legacy at home, Westrbook is hoping to build on that on Saturday when he makes his playoff debut for the Rockets. Houston is set to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of their first-round game with the currently tied 2-2 series.
