A Sonoma man on parole was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing a man, authorities said Friday.

James Freeman, 37, came under investigation Thursday after Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at a home in the 4500 block of Bartleson Road in Sebastopol, Sgt Juan Valencia said in a news release. After providing medical aid, deputies zeroed in on Freeman as a suspect after questioning witnesses and the victim, Valencia said.

The victim, who was unidentified, was hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Deputies later Thursday came upon Freeman driving in the 200 block of Andrieux Street in Sonoma. After he was pulled over by a deputy, Freeman allegedly rammed his car in reverse into the deputy’s vehicle while the deputy was still inside it, Valencia said. The deputy was unhurt.

Freeman surrendered, Valencia said, and is being held at Sonoma County Jail without bail on charges of attempted murder, assault with adeadly weapon, violation of Post Release Community Supervision, and possession of a controlled substance.
