RICHMOND — A fatal train strike that delayed two Amtrak trains was under investigation Wednesday night, authorities said.

Around 7:17 p.m., an Amtrak train struck and fatally injured an adult pedestrian near the 700 block of Parr Boulevard, Union Pacific spokesman Tim McMahan said in a statement.

Around 7:40 p.m., social-media posts from Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor account said that train No. 547 was stopped east of Richmond, followed minutes later by word of train No. 546 stopped at Richmond station.

Around 8:20 p.m., Capitol Corridor said there was no service between its Martinez and Richmond stations.

An Amtrak spokesperson was not immediately available to provide additional details Wednesday night.

An Amtrak train struck a vehicle Wednesday morning at an East Oakland train crossing, but no one was hurt in that incident.
