The Santa Clara County Superior Court system will no longer be able to maintain the same operating hours at all of its courts and will shut down courthouses in Palo Alto and Morgan Hill until further notice, authorities said.
The closures will go into effect on Aug. 17, and are a direct result of $16 million in budget cuts signed into the state budget by Gov. Gavin Newsom, according to a court document.
The document also states the uncertainty of the state’s General Fund could lead to additional budget reductions as summer turns into fall.
Cases scheduled to be in the Palo Alto courthouse on Grant Avenue and the South County Courthouse on Diana Avenue in Morgan Hill will be moved to San Jose at the Hall of Justice on W. Hedding Street.
The new court and telephone hours will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Friday.
The self-help center hours will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The self-help office will be closed on Wednesday and each day from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
