Report: Multiple NFL teams interested in TE Jordan Reed

Just a few years ago, Jordan Reed emerged as one of the NFL’s best tight ends and was a nightmare for defenses to cover. Now, after several seasons derailed by injuries, Reed could be making a comeback.

Multiple NFL teams interested in tight end Jordan Reed

The Washington football franchise released Reed in February. moving on from the former Pro Bowl tight end after injuries wiped away one of the league’s bright stars. Since being released, the 30-year-old hasn’t attracted much interest from around the league.

Fortunately, with training camp nearing, Reed’s luck seems to be changing. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, three teams are interested in signing Reed before camp and the 6-foot-3 tight end plans to take advantage of his second chance.

Reed missed the entire 2019 season after suffering a concussion, the seventh in his career. While a myriad of injuries have kept him sidelined in recent seasons, his history with concussions has been a driving force behind NFL teams fearing for his long-term health.

There’s no denying the talent he offers when healthy. Across 13 games in 2018, only eight starts, he averaged 10.3 yards per catch and finished with 558 receiving yards. Of course, Reed’s best season came in 2016 when he earned a trip to the Pro Bowl after hailing in 87 receptions for 952 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.

Reed worked out for the Seattle Seahawks in March, then the COVID-19 pandemic forced clubs to close their facilities. Now that players are getting ready to report for camp, another opportunity could be on the horizon.

There’s certainly a lot of concern for Reed taking the field again, but NFL teams will take the chance if he’s willing to suit up once more.
