A driver stranded on the 134 Freeway in Pasadena got a ride from a couple who then robbed her of her purse and $100 on Monday, June 29.

The victim’s purse is valued at about $3,500 and her wallet worth around $500, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said.

He said the victim, a 34-year-old Rowland Heights woman, wasn’t injured during the robbery, which happened at 3:39 a.m. on the 400 block of West Colorado Boulevard.

Her car ran out of gas while heading west on the 134 Freeway, just east of San Rafael Avenue. An older silver sedan stopped, a man stepped out and asked if the victim needed help, Hettema said.

She explained she ran out of gas and needed a ride to a gas station, he said. She got into the sedan which left the freeway and went west on Colorado Boulevard.

Near the middle of the Colorado Street Bridge, Hettema said the man spoke to the woman driving the sedan in Spanish. The sedan pulled over to the side and the man ordered the victim to get out, according to the lieutenant.

When she did, he grabbed her purse and told her to let go of it, Hettema said. The victim complied

The man returned to the sedan which drove off. He was described as bald, between 30 and 40 years old, stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and with tattoos on one arm. His accomplice who drove the sedan, was only described as a woman with a medium build and long black curly hair.
