Re: “California business can’t be reopening safety net” (Opinion section, Eastbaytimes.com, June 19):
Hardware store owners spokesman Aaron Hichman rightfully complained that California employers should not have to bear the worker’s comp burden of new COVID-19 cases, whether acquired on or off the job site.
A perfect example of why we need national health insurance: avoid the blame game, just pay the benefit.
Fourteen years ago, the president of General Motors Corp.’s North American operations lamented that workers’ health care coverage costs were higher than the costs of steel to build cars.
How unfair for U.S. industry to have to add these health-care costs to the price of their products and services. We need national health insurance to take this load off the neck of our industrial and retail economy.
