Bay Area jazz star Taylor Eigsti performs benefit for his old school

The Community School of Music and Arts in Mountain View counts Grammy-nominated jazz piano star Taylor Eigisti as one of its alumni. And he apparently is grateful for his experiences there.

The school remains closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. And while it is offering an array of classes and private lessons online, it is among the many arts institutions facing financial challenges from the shelter-at-home landscape. And Eigsti, a Bay Area native now based in New York, will perform a streamlined concert this weekend to benefit the school.

The solo concert performed in New York, an interactive event, will include Eigsti performing some of his favorite tunes and previewing cuts from his new album, “Tree Falls.”

The pianist has released seven albums, including 2006’s “Lucky to be Me” (Concord Jazz), which garnered Grammy nominations for best jazz solo and best instrumental composition. He also co-composed with Don Cheadle a song for for the Grammy-winning soundtrack to “Miles Ahead.”

Details: Concert will be live-streamed 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13, on CSMA’s YouTube channel; free but donations encouraged.
