Crews from several fire departments are battling a major grass fire late Saturday afternoon that has claimed at least 500 acres in a rural area in Solano County between Vacaville and Winters, and is prompting mandatory evacuations, firefighters said.
More than 100 structures are threatened by the fast-moving fire, which appears to have started near Quail Canyon and Pleasants Valley Road southwest of Winters, according to Cal Fire. Low humidity and high winds have helped spur what some firefighters are calling a “dangerous rate of spread.”
As of 6:30 p.m., there is zero percent containment. Evacuations are in place for people living or working on Quail Canyon Road from Pleasants Valley Road to state Highway 128, and in the Olive School Road areas. Pleasants Valley Road is closed in the area. Click here for a map of the evacuation area.
