About 130 protesters marched from Hayward City Hall to the Hayward Police Department on Sunday, asking for justice in the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Many carrying signs, they chanted slogans asking for justice. People are protesting all over the country because of Floyd’s death by a Minneapolis police officer. This protest was peaceful, but there are ongoing riots, looting and destruction of property nationwide this weekend as the coronavirus pandemic continues.

Hayward recently had two officer-involved shootings, a week apart. On May 20, a man suspected in a killing at a homeless camp May 1 was fatally shot by police during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Police officers shot and tased a man in his driveway after police said he had approached them with a knife Wednesday, the second shooting involving the city’s police in a week.

A spokesperson for the Hayward Police Department said the man who was shot was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. After his release from the hospital, he was booked into Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
