Man in critical condition after Oakland hit-and-run

OAKLAND — The driver of a car that failed to stop after hitting a pedestrian in East Oakland Friday night leaving him in critical condition is being sought by police.

The injured man’s age and place of residence were not released.

Police said Saturday the man was walking  eastbound in the 5200 block of Bancroft Avenue along the south  side bicycle lane about 9:47 p.m. Friday when he was hit by a vehicle traveling eastbound that failed to stop.

The vehicle is described as possibly being a newer model  Honda,  white,  with four doors.  No description of the driver was released.

Police said it is not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the hit-and-run.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver.  Anyone with information may call police traffic investigators at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
