Coronavirus: Fourth Oakland officer positive for COVID-19

OAKLAND — A fourth Oakland Police Department officer has tested positive for the COVID-19 novel coronavirus, authorities said Tuesday.

In a statement, police said the officer was a patrol officer, different from the department’s three earlier officers who all tested positive nearly two months ago but were not responding to public calls from residents at the time.

The officer, who has not been on duty since May 14, tested positive Monday evening, and is now “off-site, self-quarantined and recovering,” an Oakland police officer said.

Department personnel have been following Alameda County’s public health order and the Centers for Disease Control’s COVID-19 guidelines, as well as using PPE (personal protective equipment), training from the Oakland Fire Department and city-provided testing for first responders.
