Nets’ Spencer Dinwiddie creates wild GoFundMe for fans to decide where he’ll play next

Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie isn’t just one of the best, young guards in the Eastern Conference, he’s also got one of the NBA’s wildest personalities. The 27-year-old is taking things to the next level by giving fans a chance to pick where he plays in a unique way.

Dinwiddie, who previously looked to convert his $34 million contract into bitcoin, is creating an opportunity for fans to decide which team he plays for when his contract expires after the 2021-’22 season. The catch, fans have to raise $24.632 million through his GoFundMe.

An opportunity to pick what team a great player will sign with is unique. Before the league suspended its season indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dinwiddie was averaging 20.6 points, 6.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.

The idea came when a fan challenged Dinwiddie to delete his Twitter account for 1,000 bitcoin. While he passed on that, Brooklyn’s star guard decided to raise the stakes. If fans could raise 2,525.8 bitcoin, or $24,632,630 in US dollars, he would sign a minimum contract with any team that fans voted on.

Fans obviously won’t be able to raise $24.6 million, especially since Dinwiddie asked NBA owners not to get involved. However, that’s where the genius of this comes in. When the goal inevitably isn’t reached, Dinwiddie will donate every dollar donated to charity.

It’s a unique way to get his name out there even more and generate a lot of buzz, all while finding an incredible avenue to raise money for charities he cares about.
