Local high school football stars picked for final Team Alberta tryout camp

Several local high school football players caught the eye of Football Alberta scouts at their Superweekend this past weekend.

The event at Edmonton’s Foote Field was the start of the selection process for Team Alberta U18, which will compete in the Football Canada Cup this July in Vancouver, and the U17 squad that will travel to the island of Maui for a development camp in August where they will take on local high school teams.

The nine local players were among the 142 picked from an original group of 370 to move on to the final selection camp for both teams, April 3-5 in Calgary.

Ethan Briault of Notre Dame and Lucas Fuerbringer from Hunting Hills were selected to advance at the quarterback position.

H.J. Cody receivers Reuben Braitenback and Cody Peever will are also among the group selected for the camp.

A pair of local running backs will be attending – Nolan Baragar from Hunting Hills and Quinton Kremp of Notre Dame.

On the defensive side of the ball, linebackers Joe Demale of Hunting Hills, Chase Pack and John Sansom of Lindsay Thurber will be at the camp.
