Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre expansion not part of Alberta’s budget
The first budget from Alberta’s United Conservative Government does not include funding for Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre expansion.
What the capital plan for the budget tabled Thursday by Finance Minister Travis does include “planning funds for potential future projects such as redevelopment of the Red Deer Regional Hospital.” Edmonton’s Misericordia and Royal Alexandra hospitals are also included. Three million dollars has been allocated for the current fiscal year, followed by $2 million in 2020-21 and $1 million in 2021-22 and 2022-23.
The former NDP Government had committed to moving forward with Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre in its throne speech before being defeated in the provincial election in April.
Funding for the Red Deer Justice Centre (new courthouse) is included in the budget’s capital plan to the tune of $178 million over the next four years.
There is also $5 million allocated in 2019-20 for further work on the Gaetz Ave./Taylor Drive interchange.
More to come.
