Saturday is Sockey Night in Red Deer
United Way Central Alberta is pleased to announce the eleventh annual Sockey Night in Red Deer in partnership with the Red Deer Rebels – Saturday, October 19 beginning 7 p.m. at the Westerner Park Centrium.
For weeks United Way has been collecting socks, largely donated by chiropractors in Red Deer, to support a great cause this winter: warm feet for all! This event brings together sports fans of all ages to share in the fun by throwing socks on the ice during the second intermission.
This year United Way is shining light on complex issues like homelessness and poverty with the #UNIGNORABLE Campaign. By raising awareness of these local issues, we are asking Central Albertans to show their local love and be a part of the solution.
“This is our 11th year running Sockey Night in Red Deer, and we’re planning on making it a little bit different,” said Brett Speight, CEO of United Way Central Alberta. “Instead of purchasing a pair of socks, event goers will receive one for free to throw during the second intermission. Sockey Night helps raise awareness and having more people participate allows us to shine a brighter light.”
On Monday, October 21, socks will begin to go out for delivery to several of our partner agencies who will make sure they get on the feet of those who need them most.
