Rebels trade Herauf to Victoria

The Red Deer Rebels have parted ways with a veteran defenceman as their roster continues to take shape for the 2019-20 Western Hockey League season.

On Tuesday, the Rebels traded 19-year-old Jacob Herauf to the Victoria Royals in exchange for a 2nd round selection in the 2020 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, a 6th round bantam pick in 2021 and a conditional 5th round bantam draft pick in 2022.

Herauf is entering his fourth year in the WHL. He’s played 173 regular season games with the Rebels, scoring three goals and 36 assists for 39 points. He was drafted in the first round, 16th overall by the Rebels in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft.

Also on Tuesday, the Rebels announced that goaltender Eric Ward will play this season with the Drayton Valley Thunder of the AJHL. Ward, 18, was acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds in a trade last December.

Moving Ward to Drayton Valley sets the table for Ethan Anders and Byron Fancy to start the season as the Rebels goaltending tandem.

On Monday, the Rebels traded 18-year-old forward Alex Morozoff to Seattle for a 5th round selection in the 2021 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
